Learn About Lava Lamps

In this retro-inspired lesson, students will learn about the history of lava lamps and their connection to pop culture and design. They will discover how lava lamps became popular in the 1960s and explore the science behind how they work. Students will make connections between history, science, and art as they study the unique shapes, movement, and colors associated with lava lamps.

Lava Lamps Art Project

In this colorful and creative project, students will design and paint their own lava lamp artwork. They will begin by painting a background with tempera paint, then draw and paint a lava lamp using watercolors. After cutting out their lava lamp and gluing it onto black paper to create a bold border, students will finish by mounting their work on their painted background for a striking final piece.
